"The Spectrum" is an urban design coursework for the Master of Urban Planning Programme, HKU. The project sets in Tung Chung, Hong Kong and candidates are briefed to create a waterfront hub for both residents and tourists from the nearby international airport.
The general approach to design the area is to showcase the long history and mix of the Hong Kong culture, from old to new, and from eastern to western. Hence the "Spectrum". It features paddy fields as a symbol of old Hong Kong, to jetties and markets which represent the 1950s vibes, and finally a modern, futuristic waterfront to show the prosperity.
